The Journey of Our Rugs

Every Kesari Home rug begins as a hand-drawn artwork, reflecting the creativity and vision of our design team. Our designs are inspired by various cultural and artistic influences, from traditional Indian motifs to modern design movements. This fusion of old and new allows us to create rugs that are both timeless and contemporary, fitting seamlessly into any home decor while celebrating our rich cultural roots. These designs are then brought to life by our skilled artisans in rural India, who use traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. This process ensures that each rug is not only a beautiful addition to your home but also a piece of art that embodies a deep cultural heritage.

Carding & Spinning

The journey begins with the selection of high-quality wool, which is then transformed into yarn by skilled artisans known as Katwaris. The wool is carded to remove impurities and align the fibers, and then spun into yarn using a traditional charkha, a spinning wheel. This process not only creates the foundation of the rug but also preserves the artisanal heritage of hand-spinning.

Dyeing

The spun yarn is dyed in a wide range of vibrant colors using eco-friendly dyes. The yarn is wound onto frames and immersed in boiling vats of dye, ensuring deep, lasting colors. After dyeing, the yarn is hung to dry in the sun, a natural process that enhances its color and texture.

Weaving

The heart of our rug-making process is weaving. Artisans sit at looms and meticulously hand-knot the yarn, creating intricate patterns line by line. Depending on the design's complexity, this process can take several months to a year to complete. Each knot is tied with precision, resulting in a dense, durable, and exquisitely detailed rug.

Washing and Drying

Once the weaving is complete, the rugs are washed to remove any dirt and excess dye. This washing process, which involves soaking and rinsing the rug multiple times, not only cleans the rug but also enhances the luster and softness of the fibers. The washed rugs are then dried and transformed under the Indian sun, which further strengthens the yarn and stabilizes the colors.

Detailing and Final Touches

The final steps in the rug-making process involve detailed craftsmanship to enhance the rug's aesthetic appeal. This includes carving the pile to create a high-low effect, making certain patterns stand out more vividly. Additionally, hand-binding the edges ensures stability and longevity. These finishing touches not only perfect the appearance of the rug but also contribute to its overall durability.

Quality Control

Throughout the production process, rigorous quality checks are implemented to ensure each rug meets our high standards of craftsmanship. From the initial spinning of yarn to the final finishing touches, every step is carefully monitored to guarantee the creation of a durable, high-quality heirloom.
